Ruth Apilado (1908-2021) validation
The GRG is happy to announce the age validation of Ruth Mosselle Apilado, nee Mays.
Ruth was born April 30th 1908 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA. After graduating from Chicago Normal College, in 1928 she started out as a teacher. Ruth then started her career in journalism in 1942. Much of her journalistic career, and after her retirement, was devoted to an anti-racism stance.
Ruth was married to a Filipino-American man, Inosencio Apilado, and they had a son called Myron. Their marriage lasted 70 years, with Inosencio passing away when Ruth was 99. By the age of 113, Ruth’s memory started to fail and she moved into assisted living. Ruth passed away in Federal Way, King County, Washington, on August 15th 2021, aged 113 years, 107 days. She was the oldest known person in Washington State at the time of her passing.
