Jan. 7, 2020; Ophelia Burks was born in Haughton, Bossier Parish, Louisiana, USA on Oct. 25, 1903. Her parents were Frank Williams and Mary Ann Hartman. She never graduated from the primary school as her family didn’t had enough money to buy a school supplies for each of their children. She had three brothers and eight sisters. She married a local farmer, Prince Burks who died in 1989 at the age of 94. Burks claimed having worked for 50 cents a day during the Great Depression. She came from a long-lived family. The grandmother, who was of Native American ancestry, didn’t speak English and Ophelia couldn’t understand her language. Ophelia Burks had five children, including Autrey, Dorothy, Bernice, and Marie.
Following the death of Delphine Gibson on May 9, 2018, Ophelia Burks became the oldest living person in the USA.
Ophelia Burks died in Haughton, Louisiana, USA, on September 27, 2018, at the age of 114 years, 337 days. Following her death, Lessie Brown became the oldest living person in the USA. Burks was the last known surviving person in the USA born in 1903, and is also the oldest validated person, the longevity record-holder, from the U.S. state of Louisiana.

Her age was verified by Cyril Depoudent and Antoine Demarais, and validated by the GRG on April 2, 2015.
Odette Colin died in Geispolsheim, Bas-Rhin, Grand Est, France, on April 9, 2014, at the age of 111 years, 12 days. At the time, she was the sixth-oldest living person in France (behind Marie Liguinen, Olympe Amaury, Eudoxie Baboul, Jeanne Bournat and Therese Ladigue). She was also the oldest living person in Grand Est region; her successor was 110-year-old Henriette Boeuf.

Gibson became the oldest living person in the United States following the death of 114-year old Adele Dunlap on 5 February 2017 and the oldest living American citizen following the death of American emigrant Marie-Josephine Gaudette, who lived in Rome, Italy, on 13 July 2017.
Gibson was born as Delphine Tucker in Ridgeway, South Carolina on a family farm on August 17, 1903. She helped on her family’s farm until she married Taylor Gibson in 1928. The couple had three children. They would eventually move to Mount Union, Pennsylvannia to work in the area’s now-historic brickyards. Taylor Gibson died in 1980.
Gibson, who had been living at a Huntingdon nursing home since the age of 100, attributed her long life to good food, her faith in God, and her church. “She has an amazing spirit,” nursing home manager Miranda Glover said. “She always singing to us or sharing the gospel. She is a treasure to the nation.”

May 10, 2015; Hatsuno Goto was born in Myoko, Niigata, Japan on September 1, 1903. At the age of 14, she moved to Tokyo and has lived there ever since. Goto married and had two children. At the age of 73, she took up painting in the hope of keeping her brain active in order to prevent dementia. She subsequently become a renowned oil painter and a book has been published featuring some of her work. At the age of 96, one of her works received an encouragement award from the education minister at a Japan Modern Naive Art Society Exhibition. Goto has now taken a break from painting to conserve her strength, but she still enjoys a variety of hobbies such as reciting traditional poetry and doing traditional Japanese calligraphy.
Goto travelled to America at the age of 103 and for a second time at the age of 106. She continues to travel regularly, visiting her nephew’s house in Chiba Prefecture every April, going cherry blossom viewing in Ueno Park in Tokyo’s Taito Ward, and attending the wisteria viewing festival at the Kameido Tenjinja shrine in Koto Ward. Goto says the secret to her longevity is the way she eats. She chews her first mouthful 30 times to help her stomach and intestines work properly. She currently lives in Tokyo.

She was one of nine siblings. She married Robert Gragg in 1922. The couple had three sons: J.B. Gragg (1923–2005), Billy T. Gragg (1928-2009) and Arnold Allison Gragg. She was widowed in 1958. One of her cousins Sallie Dennis (1902–2002) lived to be 100. Cloa Gragg died in Lebanon, Tennessee, USA on February 2, 2014 at the age of 110 years, 246 days. She is survived by one son Arnold Allison Gragg, two daughters-in-law Doris Gragg and Margaret Gragg; 7 granchildren Angie Russell, Sandy Jones, Loyce Buckner, Kelly Farmer, Reagan Gragg, Barbara Gragg, and Judy Arena; 9 great-granchildren and several great-great-granchildren.

September 27, 2014; Sina Hayes was born in Iredell County, North Carolina on June 27, 1903. One of 10 children, she married Raleigh Hayes in 1924 and had two sons, Harold and Carlyle. After moving to Winston-Salem when her husband found a new job, Hayes worked at Hanes Knitting Mill in Winston-Salem for more than 30 years, primarily making infant sleepwear. One of her quilts won an award at a local fair. After Raleigh retired in 1966, the couple travelled extensively, visiting every American state except Alaska, as well as several European countries. Sina enjoyed 70 years of happy marriage until Raleigh died in 1994, aged 92. Shortly after his death, Sina moved into Brookridge Retirement Community where she has lived ever since.
Now a great-great grandmother, Hayes puts her longevity down to “exhibiting a “Pollyanna” attitude and keeping happy thoughts on the mind.” Faith has been the bedrock of her life. She has been a member of Northwest Baptist Church for 75 years, and spent several decades serving in Sunday school and with the Women’s Missionary Union. “She’s been a living example of a Godly woman her whole long life,” her son Carlyle Hayes said.

March 16, 2015; Israel Kristal was reportedly born in Zarnow, Russia (now Poland), on September 15, 1903. However, according to his family, he was born as Izrael Icek Krysztal (in Polish; now transliterated as “Israel Kristal”) in the little nearby village of Malenie as a son of Moszek-Dawid and Brucha Krysztal. The village belonged to the Zarnow synagogue district and subsequently became part of the Lodz Voivodeship. The family was very poor. His mother, Brucha, died in 1910 and the father was drafted into the army during World War I. Israel Kristal was forced to work hard at a farm. According to his family, he didn’t even have bar mitzvah, a traditional Jewish religious celebration.
In 1920, aged 17, he moved to Lodz. In 1928, he married Chaja Feige Frucht in Wegleszyn. They lived in Lodz, starting a candy and chocolate factory. Mr. Krysztal worked as a candy maker and confectioner. After the outbreak of World War II, they became residents of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto in Lodz occupied by the Germans. They lived in the ghetto between years 1940-1944. Both Kristal and his wife were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp after the ghetto was liquidated in 1944. They lost their two children to the Holocaust. Kristal’s wife also died in Auschwitz, but Israel Kristal himself survived, performing backbreaking slave labour in Auschwitz and other concentration camps. After having been freed, Kristal returned to Lodz where lived for a couple more years.
He married again and moved to Haifa, Israel, in 1950, where he still lives. On January 19, 2016 he became the oldest verified living man in the world, following the death of Yasutaro Koide.
August 17, 2017; Israel Kristal died on August 11, 2017 at the age of 113 years, 330 days. At the time of his death, Kristal was the ninth-oldest verified man ever and the oldest person ever from Israel. Furthermore, Kristal is the oldest Holocaust survivor ever and the oldest Jewish man on record.

February 11, 2016; Annie Meston was born in Brixham, Devon, United Kingdom on November 12, 1903 and died in the same place on March 22, 2015 at the age of 111 years, 130 days.
Born as Annie Holland, she married Norman Tanner in 1935 and had one son. Norman died during WWII, and she married William Meston in 1947. At the age of 98, Meston enjoyed her first ride on a Harley Davidson and touched a piece of the moon during a visit to the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, United States. On her 100th birthday, she enjoyed a ride on the Splash Mountain Ride at Disney World in Florida. Until the age of 103, Meston independently flew to Florida and Holland every year to visit relatives.
In the words of her grandson, Keith Tanner, “She was always a very happy person and would never talk ill of people. She was married twice, both times only for periods of around eight years before her husbands died. She lost her only child, my father, when he was 34. She had every right to be bitter against the world but she was always happy and kind. It was so inspiring.”

Apr. 5, 2015; Jennie Pattist was born in South Corinth, New York, USA on March 24, 1903. Her parents were William Towers (1862–1929) and Jennie (née Meyers) Towers (1863–1941). She had 12 siblings. She married John Pattist in Greenfield, New York on August 7, 1923. The couple had two children: John Pattist JR. (1926–1978) and Marjorie Barton (1932–2009). John died on March 3, 1991, after 67 years of marriage. Pattist was employed for a few years at the Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory in Corinth. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Corinth and was a member of a quilting club in Corinth for several years. She lived at Wesley Health Care Center. In 2003, she got a cane – the town’s Golden Cane – in honor of being the oldest resident of Corinth.
Jennie Pattist died in Saratoga Springs, New York, USA on January 5, 2014 at the age of 110 years, 287 days. She was survived by four grandchildren: Shawn Davis and her husband Bob Davis, Scott Barton, Aaron Barton and his companion Bonnie Norton, and Patrick Barton; three great-grandchildren: Jessica Davis, Karstie Burgess, and Timothy Barton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She lived with them in a house in Risca Road, Newport, and helped them to buy the property while she worked. Phillips worked as a teacher in primary and secondary schools in Newport (including one in Risca Road). She was a devout Catholic, and was formerly an organist at St Mary’s Church in Stow Hill, Newport. She enjoyed socialising, and played bridge with members of the congregation. Phillips moved to Danygraig Nursing Home in 2009, after suffering a fall. Until the age of 108, she drank a glass of brandy and port every morning and every evening. According to her main nurse, Brigid Foley, she was a sweet lady, but had a strong character. On her 110th birthday in 2013, she received a telegram from the Queen. Gwendoline Bertha Phillips died in Newport, Wales, United Kingdom on July 24, 2014, at the age of 111 years, 7 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Wales.

Apr. 29, 2015; Józefa Stanisława Szyda was born on March 11, 1903 in Turek, Russian Empire (now Turek, Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland). She married, however, the couple never had children. Later, she moved to Łódź where, together with her husband, they run a shop. Reportedly, Mrs. Szyda was completely independent in daily activities until aged 108. She was cared by her niece. The family used to adress her as “Auntie Stachna”. When asked about the secret of her longevity, she replied that the most important thing is to keep regular sleeping hours. On her 108th birthday, she was reported to be the oldest living person in the city of Łódź.
Józefa Stanisława Szyda died on May 1, 2013 in Łódż, Łódź Voivodeship, Poland, at the age of 110 years, 51 days. Mrs. Szyda is the 2nd oldest person in the history of Łódź Voivodeship, being five days younger than the record-holder of the region, Józefa Karczewska (1902–2013), also a validated supercentenarian. At the time of her death, Józefa Stanisława Szyda was the Doyenne of Poland, having inherited the title from aforementioned Józefa Karczewska, on Jan. 18, 2013.

May 2, 2013: Linnie Thuesen was born in Tyler, Texas, USA on April 11, 1903. Her parents were John Currie and Mary (née Applewhite) Currie. She was the fifth of nine children. One of her sisters introduced her to her first husband, Jessie W. Holland when she was 20. He worked in railroad construction, and they moved to San Antonio in the 1930s. The couple had seven chidren: Joseph Holland, James Holland, Jean Holland, Julia Medlin, Jeanelle Worrell, Jo Ann Cuevas and J.C. Holland. Thuesen was a stay-at-home mother. Holland died in 1962. Five years later, she married Wilburn Thuesen, who accompanied her on many cruises abroad. He died in 1991. Thuesen did not credit her longevity to a secret elixir or regimen, but she said church has played a tremendous part in her life. Prior to moving to Golden Casa, members of the Harvest Hill Baptist Church would stop by her home to care for her.
Linnie Thuesen’s last surviving sibling Ida Neumann (1919–2017) lived to be 98. On Apr. 11, 2013 Thuesen turned 110 becoming a supercentenarian. At the time she was reported to have had some dementia, but was fond of talking about her travels abroad to the Holy Land and Europe She remembered traveling by covered wagon at age 6. She still exercised, lifting 1-pound weights in weekly Silver Sneaker classes. She didn’t use a walker until age 108. Thuesen always has been independent: she drove until she was 103 and lived alone until October 2012.
Linnie Thuesen died in San Antonio, Texas, USA on November 29, 2013 at the age of 110 years, 232 days. She was survived by two daughters Jeanelle Worrell and Jo Ann Cuevas; one son J.C. Holland, 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren and one sister Ida Mae Neumann. Linnie Thuesen was the second-oldest living person in the state of Texas behind validated supercentenarian Bertha Harris (1902-2015).

She graduated from Waldorf Business College and worked as a secretary at Iowa State College (now Iowa State University) from 1922 to 1924. She married Dr. Henry Albert Webber in Des Moines, Iowa, USA on December 5, 1925. Henry taught electrochemistry and was professor-in-charge of the chemical engineering unit operations laboratory from 1941 to 1961 and professor from 1923 to 1961. The couple had three children: Marjorie Webber (1928–2015), Richard Webber (1931–2014) and Donald Webber (born 1934). She got widowed in 1965.

Wilson had three children, nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She became the oldest person in New Zealand on 14 March 2011, then aged 107, following the death of 109-year-old Lena Ray. She was affectionately knowns as “Maudie”.
Frances Maude Wilson died in Invercargill, New Zealand, on October 24, 2013, at the age of 110 years, 215 days. She was succeeded as New Zealand’s oldest person by 109-year-old Peg Griffin.
Apart from being the Doyenne of New Zealand, Frances Maude Wilson became the third validated supercentenarian in the history of that Oceanian nation behind Ethel Booth (1890-2001) and Florence Finch (1893-2007). Her age was verified by Mark Muir, Anson Davis, and Waclaw Jan Kroczek, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group on Apr. 26, 2015.
